Mark Farrell is the new
All-Ireland Table Football Champion. He won the 9-player
league on the day to end Kenny Beggs' three-year reign.

Mark Farrell clinches the All-Ireland title in a 0-0 draw
with Kenny Beggs
Despite the absence of two
main contenders, Barry Spence & Gary Moore, it was an
exciting climax to the season at Celbridge Mill. Things started well for Mark, as
his main rivals dropped early points - Kenny Beggs &
John Moore drawing with each other and John losing to
Andrew Morrison. Meanwhile, Mark kept on winning. When
Mark beat John, that left Beggs as his only challenger
but Peter Morrison's surprise draw with Beggs virtually
ended that challenge and a goal-less draw between Farrell
and Beggs was enough to seal the title for Farrell with a
game to spare. Good to see Martin Taylor making a
comeback, playing competitively for the first time since
1998.

Winners
Irish Circuit 2010/11
It was
encouraging to have 20 players taking part in the Circuit
during the season. Having won three Events and finished
Runner-up in one, Mark Farrell has been the most
consistent player and is a worthy winner, just overtaking
the holder, Kenny Beggs, by winning the All-Ireland
Championships on the last day of the season. Irish Circuit Table

Beggs Wins Celbridge Open 8th Jan 2011
Six Northern
players joined five Southerners at Celbridge Mill for the season's 2nd Event on the Irish
Circuit. Northern Ireland's Kenny Beggs beat Dublin's
Mark Farrell, 1-0 in a tense Final. The pair had earlier
played out a goal-less draw in their first-round Group,
which Mark topped, but Kenny marginally got the
upper-hand in the final, with one early goal being enough
to win the match and take the title. Eoin Adams won the
Plate. Results
Celbridge Open Final: Kenny Beggs 1-0 Mark Farrell
The 11 entrants were drawn
into two groups, with the top three in each group
qualifying for the 2nd Stage. In Group 1, Andrew Morrison
just pipped Nicky Moore for 3rd place behind Farrell
& Beggs. Group 2 was the 'group of death', with only
one point separating the first four players. John Moore
& Barry Spence qualified with 9 points each, while
Gary Moore and Alistair Morrison were tied on 8 points.
Gary just ousted out the unfortunate Alistair due to his
goal-difference being one better.
The 2nd Stage consisted of
two groups of three players, with group winners
progressing to the Final. In Group A, Mark Farrell &
Gary Moore both beat Barry Spence 2-0 and drew with each
other, so a shoot-out was required, which Mark edged to
set up a Final with Kenny Beggs, who topped Group B ahead
of John Moore and Andrew Morrison.
In the Plate, Eoin Adams'
bad run looked set to continue as he lost his first match
to Nicky Moore but he recovered to beat Alistair Morrison
& Peter Morrison to top the table and finish the day
with a trophy.

the 7-player table. Results

Deciding Match: Kenny Beggs 2 Barry Spence 3
Going into the final
session, Spence was two points behind Beggs, so he needed
a victory but Beggs took an early lead which lasted until
midway through the 2nd Half. Spence then scored twice in
quick succession to turn the game around. This led to a
frantic finish, which saw Beggs equalise with two minutes
remaining, only for Spence to score a 3rd goal in the
last minute. There was still time for one more attack as
Beggs played the ball through the middle and tried a shot
on-the-move but Spence's keeper was in fine form and he
held on to clinch a memorable victory.
It was an enjoyable day's
play and, in keeping with the festive season, all
participants received Christmas chocolates. The only
disappointment was the snowy weather which prevented the
Southern players from travelling.
