'Old Subbuteo'
Victory for Bickerstaff in Wexford 20th July 2013
Congratulations to Ernie
Bickerstaff on recording his first tournament victory in
County Wexford. There were two WASPA events organised by Nicky Moore on the same
day. Ernie won the first event, played to the 'Advanced
Subbuteo Rules', topping the six-player table ahead of
Nicky Moore. Only old Subbuteo 'Heavyweight' teams were
allowed, with no polish and it produced some interesting
results! The other event was played to FISTF Rules and
was won by Kenny Beggs, with Mark Farrell being
runner-up.

Beggs Wins
'FISTF Rules' Open in Wexford 20th July 2013 Kenny Beggs won
the second WASPA event of the day, finishing above Mark
Farrell in a five player group. A last-gasp goal
following a corner-flick gave Kenny a 2-1 victory over
Mark in the decisive match. This one was played to 'FISTF
Rules'. Many thanks to Nicky & family for their
hospitality, providing the players with accommodation and
food. A great summer weekend in a beautiful location.

Farrell Wins
Kildare Open to Secure Irish Circuit 29th June 2013
Irish Circuit Champion, Mark Farrell, attacks against
John Moore
Mark Farrell won the
Kildare Open, topping a 5-player league with maximum
points. His victory also secured the 2012/13 Irish Circuit Championship, as he can no longer
be caught with only one event remaining. Two 1-0
victories over Runner-up, Kenny Beggs, made the
difference in Kildare, while the other players battled
for 3rd place. Ernie Bickerstaff, who has been playing
for about a year, had a notable win and draw against the
experienced John Moore but John just pipped him into 3rd
place. Unfortunately, England's Colin Tarry had to drop
out at the last minute due to illness. We wish him a
speedy recovery. Results | Photos

Outdoor Subbuteo 9th June 2013 Joe McRoberts and
Kenny Beggs made the most of the recent good weather to
take the table-top game outside. There were no goals,
however, due to the slight breeze which was enough to
blow the ball off course whenever there was a shooting
opportunity! It was fun trying, though!

Beggs Wins
Forestside Open 1st June 2013
The 4th Irish Circuit event of the season (and Northern
Ireland's 3rd WASPA event) was won by Kenny Beggs, who topped
an 8-player league. John Moore was runner-up and Mark
Farrell 3rd. It was all very tight going into the last
session, with any of these three players still having a
chance to top the table. Mark needed to beat Kenny. John
needed to beat Ernie Bickerstaff by two clear goals and
hope for Kenny & Mark to draw with each other. John
won 1-0 but Kenny scored a late winner against Mark to
secure the title. Results | Photos

The tournament attracted
some good publicity, being held in the middle of
Belfast's busy Forestside Shopping Centre. Many of the shoppers, young and
old, stopped to watch, ask questions and play on the
practise table. Emma Lamont won a Penalty Competition for
the general public, following a sudden-death shoot-out
against her Father and Stephen Betts. Thanks to Ernie
Bickerstaff for negotiating the venue and to Forestside
for offering us the opportunity to put the game in the
public eye.

The Bangor Open, Northern Ireland's 2nd WASPA Event, was won by Mark Farrell, who made it
a hat-trick of Irish Circuit triumphs this season. Kenny Beggs
was 2nd and John Moore 3rd. Congratulations also to Ernie
Bickerstaff, who won the Plate - his first trophy since
starting to play competitively just over a year ago. He
even beat ex-Northern Ireland Champion, Davy Clegg, who
was making a comeback after a couple of years' break.
Seven players took part in the tournament, which had been
rearranged following the original postponement due to
snow. They played each other once in a league format,
with the top 4 qualifying for the Final Group and the

Strabane 'Practice
& Rules' Night 24th March 2013 Strabane Subbuteo
Club had their first 'Practice & Rules' meeting. Ten
players turned up at Fountain
Street Community Centre for friendly matches and to
familiarise themselves with the rules. They plan on
having another few nights like this before commencing a
league programme.
Brendan Rodgers from the
Donegal Club, also attended and was impressed with the
venue. He said "There were four tables set up, with
room for four more. It was the first time that I played
on the Pegasus astropitches and I must say I loved them.
We were using Total Soccer & Zuego bases. It was a
great evening with a great bunch of lads. Great to see 3
or 4 younger ones there too."
Snow Hits Northern
Ireland Events 23rd March 2013 Two important
sporting events fell to the snowy weather this weekend.
First, Northern Ireland's Football World Cup Qualifier
against Russia and then the much anticipated Bangor
Subbuteo Open!! The latter will be rearranged in April,
when, hopefully, travelling conditions will be a lot
better.
