Final Championship Table 2008/09

10th Clubnight 31st Aug 2009
There were only three players at the final Clubnight of the season. They played each other twice in a mini league: 1st K.Beggs, 2nd S.Rodgers, 3rd Al. Morrison. Results

9th Clubnight 29th June 2009
Nine players attended the penultimate meeting of the season. Seven took part in the Swiss Ladder, while two newcomers, Cahill Murphy and Philip Morrison, played a couple of friendlies. Good to see Davy Clegg making his first appearance of the season. The former Northern Ireland Champion played well but finished 6th, despite only losing one match. It was a personal best for Nicky Moore, who finished 2nd, while Kenny Beggs topped the table with maximum points.

8th Clubnight 1st June 2009
The 8th Clubnight of the season comprised of a seven-player Swiss Ladder topped by Kenny Beggs, with Barry Spence runner-up.

7th Clubnight - Beggs Wins League 20th April 2009
Eoin Adams made a welcome comeback, playing in his first club meeting of the season. He was unbeaten but just pipped into top spot by Kenny Beggs, who can no longer be caught in the Championship Table

6th Clubnight 23rd March 2009
Kenny Beggs topped the nine-player Swiss Ladder at the 6th Club meeting of the season, one point ahead of Peter Morrison.

5th Clubnight - Farrell Debut Triumph 23rd Feb 2009
Dublin's Mark Farrell took the honours at the latest February Club Meeting. In a Knockout-Cup format, he beat Peter Morrison in the 1st Round, Stephen Rodgers in the Semi-Final and Kenny Beggs in the Final to complete an excellent debut at the Club. Mark made the long trip with Barbarians' regular Southern player, Nicky Moore, who finished 4th on the night.

The Club is sad to announce the passing away of one of its members, Robbie Donnell. Due to ill health, Robbie only made one appearance this season. He was also a dedicated member of the Kingsway Church. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.

4th Clubnight - Hermon Returns 26th Jan 2009
The January meeting saw a good turnout of eleven players taking part in a three-group tournament. Kenny Beggs beat Barry Spence on shots in the Final, following a scoreless match. Beaten semi-finalists, Nicky Moore & John Hughes played each other in the 3rd/4th Place Play-Off, which Nicky won 1-0.

Former Northern Ireland Junior Champion, Neal Hermon, made an appearance. Despite two single-goal defeats to Stephen Rodgers and Alistair Morrison, he showed signs that he will again be a force to be reckoned with once he has a few more games under his belt.

Neal was National Junior Champion in 1989 & 1990 and represented Northern Ireland at the 1990 World Cup in Rome.

2. Peter Morrison ..... 7 pts
3. David Knox .......... 5 pts
4. Jeff Knox ............. 2 pts
5. John Hughes ....... 1 pt

2nd Clubnight - Tournament 17th Nov 2008
Thirteen players attended the latest Barbarians' meeting. Continuing this season's policy of varying the format, there was a tournament consisting of four groups. The group winners qualified for the semi-finals, while group runners-up played off for positions 5-8 and the rest played off for positions 9-13.

New Season Gets Underway 6th Oct 2008
Based on the recent Barbarians Poll , we have decided to use different formats during the season, to add variety to Clubnights. The first night flicked of with a six-player round-robin. Matches were ten minutes to enable all fixtures to be completed. Goal-difference was disregarded, with a shoot-out being used to separate players on equal points.

John Hughes beats Alistair Morrison in shoot-out

Placings: 1st Kenny Beggs, 2nd Barry Spence, 3rd Peter Morrison, 4th Nicky Moore, 5th John Hughes, 6th Alistair Morrison. John Hughes beat Alistair Morrison 3-1 in a shoot-out to settle 5th/6th place.

New Format for New Season? - You Decide ....
The next Barbarians' Clubnight will see the start of the new season. Format is still undecided. We are looking for feedback from the club members whether to keep the Swiss Ladder system, change to another format or have a variety of formats throughout the season. Please let us know your opinion by voting in the Belfast Barbarians Poll and adding any comments as you see fit.
