BARRY SPENCE'S GUIDE TO BELFAST NIGHTLIFE Im not sure how many of you are staying in Belfast on Friday evening but for those that are we thought it would be useful to note a few places to go to for a couple of drinks or a good dinner. Any of these places is within fairly decent walking distance from the centre of town but if there are any problems get a taxi or just ask someone. In the complex where the competition is being held there are about 4 nightclubs, 'Precious' being the most popular but 'Bar 7' probably being the best and a good place just for a drink as well. There is also a number of restaurants in the Oydessy complex, from Pizza Hut, to a cracking Chinese and a brilliant Indian. There is also the Titanic Bar which serves food all day and is a decent place for a quieter drink as well. The clubs do get very busy after about 8pm so arrive early otherwise you wont get in. Bars / Restaurants in Belfast Crown - one of the oldest and most famous bars in belfast, always busy so get there early - opposite the Europa Hotel, does a great traditional lunch Robinsons - Next to the crown, good spot with a decent club in basement, - not great for 18 - 25's though The Fly - Very busy, good music Laverys - Good middle bar, good music, but does attratct undisirables Manhatten - Big nightclub opposite Laverys, very busy!! Runs a 70's disco on Friday nights. If your wanting to pull an oldie, thats your place!! But has all ages. Limelight / Spring and Airbreak - Has a live band on most Fridays, good bar but more for Nirvana lovers if you know what I mean McHughs - Great spot on Friday night, great food, live band in basement Milk - Good nightclub, expensive to get in though, about £15, house / R&B The Apartment - Good bar but quite small, good view of City hall at night The Pot-house - New bar just opened, brilliant food!! Bar Baca / La Lea- The first is the bar which is small but excellent, and the next is the nightclub next door. Very good nightclub. Bar Red - More for 28 + good spot Bar 12 - Good music, beside the fly. Get in early to get a booth or bunch of seats, excellent atmosphere! Irene & Nans - Very busy at weekends but good bar Borban - Excellent restaurant!! Not cheap though. 10 Square - This is the restaurant upstairs from Bar Red, have heard good reports Belfast clubs and bars after a certain time are very choosey as to who they let in, especially if your are not wearing the right stuff in their mind. If you are intending going out in Belfast, don't wear trainers, track-suit tops or football shirts. Jeans are ok in most places but bring ID regardless of who you are!! If you need any more help please contact me!! Enjoy the weekend!! Barry Spence baz.spence1@btopenworld.com
