NORTH DOWN OPEN 12th March 2005 - Report from Flicker Cummings has a glorious homecoming Trevor Cummings made a triumphant return to competition on home soil by winning the North Down Open. The twice Northern Ireland National Champion, who is now based in Merseyside, had only played in British mainland tournaments since his comeback to the game. But he made an immediate impression across the Irish Sea, as a 1-0 victory over old rival Kenny Beggs in a closely fought final at Donaghadee secured another national open title, to add to the English version won in Yorkshire last December. There was further success for English based players as Merseyside’s Len Parsons won the Veterans' section, as well as reaching the semi finals of the main competition, Sam Curtis took the Junior trophy, whilst Adrian Curtis also made the last four in both the Veterans’ and Open categories. Hosts North Down won the team event with last minute goals from Davy Clegg and Eoin Adams being just enough to secure a 1-0 victory over Belfast Barbarians in the final, while their team-mate Stephen Rodgers picked up the plate title with a 2-1 win preventing Joe McRoberts from his fourth successive plate.
