Event 2: Dunmurry Open
7th Jan 2012
The 2nd Event of the
Irish Circuit 2011/12 saw 10 entrants playing each other once in a league format. Southern players, Mark Farrell and John Moore, were just pipped on goal-difference by Northerner, Kenny Beggs, after the three finished on equal points for the second successive tournament!! They drew 0-0 with each other and beat the rest of their opponents to finish level on 23 points. Beggs' goal-difference was only better by +1 but was enough to prevent All-Ireland Champion, Farrell, from winning his 4th consecutive Irish Circuit Event. Nicky Moore, the other Southern player present, finished 8th. Full Results | Photos

Summary of Season 2010/11

ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS Sat 27th Aug 2011

Farrell is Double Champion !!

Mark Farrell is the new All-Ireland Table Football Champion. He won the 9-player league on the day to end Kenny Beggs' three-year reign. It was a double celebration for Mark, as this victory also ensured that he topped the Irish Circuit Table, which is based on players' best four performances at the six Irish Circuit Events throughout the season. Despite the absence of two main contenders, Barry Spence & Gary Moore, it was an exciting climax to the season at Celbridge Mill. Things started well for Mark, as his main rivals dropped early points - Kenny Beggs & John Moore drawing with each other and John losing to Andrew Morrison. Meanwhile, Mark kept on winning. When Mark beat John, that left Beggs as his only challenger but Peter Morrison's surprise draw with Beggs virtually ended that challenge and a goal-less draw between Farrell and Beggs was enough to seal the title for Farrell with a game to spare. Good to see Martin Taylor making a comeback, playing competitively for the first time since 1998.

Irish Circuit 2010/11
It was encouraging to have 20 players taking part in the Circuit during the season. Having won three Events and finished Runner-up in one, Mark Farrell has been the most consistent player and is a worthy winner, just overtaking the holder, Kenny Beggs, by winning the All-Ireland Championships on the last day of the season. HISTORY
The former governing body was the Republic of Ireland Subbuteo Association (RISA) headed by Martin Taylor. When the sport was at its peak in the early 1990s, Dublin was a highly respected International Open venue which attracted the World's top players.

From 1994-2002 the Irish Subbuteo scene declined but it was given a much needed boost when the Irish Team made a comeback at the 2002 World Cup in Birmingham. This led to the formation of the new governing body, TFAI, and the beginning of a new era, which has seen Ireland organise & travel to International Events, participate in the UK & Ireland Internationals and jointly organise the Irish Circuit with NITFA, their Northern Counterparts.
