Irish Circuit Success for IPL Players 21st Oct 2023 IPL players enjoyed a successful season on the 2023 Irish Circuit. Kenny Beggs topped the Championship Table, having won in Dublin, been runner-up in 3 events and a semi-finalist in Derry. Barry Spence climbed to 3rd, thanks to his victory in the Derry Open along with 2 semi-final appearances and a quarter-final. Respectful finishes also for Andy Fitzpatrick (5th), Mick O'Brien (6th) and young Daniel Kaliszewski (best Junior and 7th in the overall table). John Moore was a semi-finalist twice and a quarter-finalist and did well to finish 8th, having only been available for 3 events. Dave Elton travelled from Tralee to all five events and was rewarded with 9th place overall and the Plate trophy in Derry, while Ernie Bickerstaff finished a steady 12th out of 35. Nicky Moore, Joe Harrington, Tommy Fitzpatrick, Eliott Fitzpatrick and Gerry Harrington played less events but were all an important part of the Circuit. Circuit Report by Andy Fitzpatrick
John Moore Wins Sydney WASPA 19th Oct 2023 Congratulations to John Moore on winning a WASPA Event during his trip to Australia. He topped the five-player table with 3 wins and a draw. The competition was hosted by Adrian Elmer at Western Sydney Subbuteo Club with FISTF President, Steve Dettre and World Cup star Eliott Kennedy in attendance.
English Grand Prix, Milton Keynes 7th-8th Oct 2023 IPL lost to Wobbly Hobby A and Wolverhampton A but beat Kent B and Kettering to finish 3rd in their group and go into the Plate. They beat Kent C in the Plate Q/F, then lost in the S/F to eventual Plate Winners, Hennuyer of Belgium. Individual Results | Team Results
IPL Welcomes Ernie Bickerstaff 24th Sept 2023 Irish Premier League is
pleased to secure the transfer of Ernie Bickerstaff from Belfast Barbarians. He joined the Barbarians in 2012
and was active on the Irish Circuit until 2014, finishing 5th twice
and organising the venue for the 2013 Forestside Open. He made a brief comeback for the 2018 Seaview Open and returned to action again in
2023. He recently won the Plate Event at the 2023 Wexford Open in Monamolin - 10 years after winning an Old Rules Competition at the same venue. He is currently
4th in the Northern Ireland Rankings and well-placed to
make the squad for the 2024 World Cup in England.
Subbuteofest 2023 Team Event 30th July 2023 A great weekend hosted by Gerry Harrington's local Haverhill Club, with some tough competition. IPL lost to Wobbly Hobby A and Yorkshire but beat Chasers to finish 3rd in their group. Next match was the Plate semi-final against Wobbly Hobby B. This turned out to be an exciting 2-2 draw, with Kenny & Joe trying to outscore Wobbly's Cayne and Ruby Matthews in a battle for goal-difference. In the end, Wobbly edged it by one goal. Dave Elton in Old Subbuteo Event 30th July 2023 Dave Elton took part in the Old Subbuteo. This clashed with the Team Event, so he couldn't make his debut for the team. He had a great time, though, and added some Old Subbuteo to his collection at the Collectors Fair.
New Signing, Marco Barqueiro Wins Plate 29th July 2023 Congratulations to IPL's new signing, Marco Barqueiro, on winning the Plate in the Subbuteofest Individual Event.
Welcome Dave Elton July 2023 Irish Premier League is proud to welcome Dave Elton to the squad. Dave is the driving force behind Tralee & Munster Subbuteo Club and is a great supporter of the Irish Circuit, travelling all the way from Tralee to most events. We look forward to sharing many great team moments with him at home and abroad, starting with Subbuteofest this month.
IPL 4th in Derry International Open 25th June 2023 An excellent performance by the Irish Premier League team to finish 4th in Derry. They picked up 10 points, with victories against Hannover, Derry and Wolves B, a draw with Yorkshire and only lost to overall winners, Wobbly Hobby and Runners-up Wolves A. They were pipped to 3rd place by Yorkshire on game-difference in the last session. As a result, the IPL Team has moved up 12 places to No.66 on the FISTF World Ranking IPL Team Results | Full Results
Young Star Daniel Great effort from the whole team, especially young Daniel Kaliszewski, who held his own against the big boys. He showed great character to come back from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 with Derry's Lawrence Watson. He was 2-0 up against Wobbly's Stuart Briffett, so they brought on Alan Lee at half-time but Daniel held out for another superb 2-2 draw. He also beat the Hannover player, Noah Wulff, and was the best-placed Junior in the Open.
Irish Circuit 2023 - Round 3 - Dublin 20th May 2023 It was a good day for IPL players in Dublin. Kenny Beggs won it, Barry Spence was a semi-finalist, Andy Fitzpatrick, John Moore & Joe Harrington reached the quarter-finals. Nicky Moore beat Daniel Kaliszewski in the Plate Final and Gerry Harrington just lost on shots to Nicky in the Plate Q/F.
Major of Mons, Belgium 4th/5th March 2023 John Moore, Andy Fitzpatrick & Daniel Kaliszewski travelled to Belgium for the Mons Major, playing in the Individual Event and representing Irish Premier League in the Team Event. Gary Moore, who now lives in Belgium, represented his local Flanders Club.
John Moore Wins in Ghent, Belgium 3rd March 2023 IPL Captain, John Moore won the Ghent WASPA Tournament, with victories against Gary Moore (4-0), Andy Fitzpatrick (2-1) and Daniel Kaleszewski (3-0). It was a warm-up for the Mons Major which takes place this weekend. Thanks to former IPL player, Gary Moore, who now lives in Belgium, for hosting the event.
Glasgow International Open 11th-12th Feb 2023 Joe and Gerry Harrington made their IPL debut in Glasgow, alongside Daniel Kaliszewski and founding members Andy Fitzpatrick & Kenny Beggs. The team narrowly missed out on a semi-final place by finishing 3rd in their group, behind eventual winners, Wolves, and Glasgow B. Many thanks to Tom Burns, Dave Gladman and the Glasgow Club for organising an enjoyable weekend. Interestingly, it is exactly 20 years since Andy & Kenny represented the original IPL Team in Preston 2003
Transfer News - Harringtons Join IPL Feb 2023 IPL is proud to welcome new signings, Joe & Gerry Harrington, who have transferred from Wobbly Hobby Club and will make their debut for IPL in Glasgow this weekend.
